	Podcasting with Moodle

1	What to expect from this online workshop In this workshop, we will explore what podcasting is, RSS feeds, how to create your own podcasts, how to host a podcast, various podcasting software and how it applies to teaching and learning. This workshop is aimed at individuals who have good ICT skills and feel comfortable using audio equipment. This online workshop should take about 3-4 hours to complete. You may complete it in one sitting or return to it when it suits you. Before you begin this workshop there is some equipment that you will need: Computer with a sound card Headphones or speakers Microphone MP3 player (not essential) If you are unsure of how to use any of the tools within Moodle click on the help icon . This will provide you with some tips.

2	What is Podcasting? Once you've completed of this section you should be able to: Describe what is podcasting. Understand what are MP3’s. Comprehend what are RSS feeds. Be aware of what Podcasting Software is available. Identify several Podcasting Hosts Have a knowledge of how podcasting in teaching and learning Make your way through the following materials, activities and resources in this section. 1st Steps - Introduction to Podcasting You should now work your way through the "Introduction to Podcasting" lesson (this lesson does contain sound). This should take you about 20 minutes. If you have any questions after going through this lesson, please enter them into the "What is Podcasting Issues" forum or email me. 3	Subscribing to podcasts (non Moodle) Below is a video clip showing you how to subscribe to a podcast using Juice. It includes audio and has a duration of less than a minute. 4	Make your own podcast Once you've completed of this section you should be able to: Understand how to Podcast Demonstate How to record an audio file Explain how to upload a Podcast Illustrate how to download a Podcast Podcasting with Moodle Before we begin lets take a look at what our goal is - an audio file that's been uploaded to a Moodle forum that your students can download and listen to. The forum in question has RSS feeds turned on so that students can automatically download the audio file to their PC if they wish, alternatively they can come into your moodle course and download the file 'manually'.
